"Where horse and rider come together in balance and harmony"

Kelsey Marcus - Trainer/Lessons

Kelsey Marcus joined Cedar Haven Stables in 2013, bringing her energy, commitment and hard work to create a thriving lesson program and show team.

A graduate from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s in Agriculture Business, she has been in the equine industry for over 17 years, and specializes in hunter/jumpers with a background in dressage.

Kelsey grew up riding and competing on the local H/J circuits, "A" circuit, and spent years showing at AQHA shows throughout Texas winning numerous awards.

She believes wholeheartedly in instilling a dressage background in each of her riders and horses since it is her experience that flat work is the most important foundation for successful jumping. Not only does Kelsey create a fun and informative environment for her students, she has an innate capacity to build confidence in even the most timid of riders with her motivational and one of a kind teaching style.

Kelsey has extensive experience training a multitude of green horses, off the track Thoroughbreds, and “problem horses”. She developed an extreme passion for the "complicated rides," and has success story after success story of bringing out the potential in even the most challenging situations.

Kelsey also brings a special passion to horse showing. Her enthusiasm, organization and coaching have brought many of Cedar Haven Lesson Students to new heights with many grand championships as well as overall confidence in the show ring.

Ariel Tokar - Assistant trainer

Ariel has enjoyed being part of the Equine industry for more than 20 years. She grew up competing in the local Hunter jumper circuits, and enjoyed every minute spent with horses and the people who love them.

Starting with a foundation formed in Pony Club, Ariel has had the opportunity to participate in many different disciplines of the industry, including: H/J, dressage, eventing, foxhunting, Polo, and Stock horse events.

Ariel graduated from Texas A&M with an Agriculture Leadership and Development with an equine emphasis bachelor of science degree she furthered her hands-on education by traveling to the East Coast to train under multiple trainers.

Ariel returned to Texas in 2014 to begin her training career and become the host of an equine TV show, Wild About Barns. Care for the animal, rider safety, and proper training are important elements of her teaching style. She believes attention to detail, along with having fun, should be part of her students’ enjoyment of these amazing animals and sport.

Alyssa Mathis - Assistant trainer

Alyssa started her riding career as a hunter rider in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. While receiving her degree in Equine General Studies from William Woods University, she fell in love with jumpers and even crossed into the eventing world.

Also while in college, Alyssa participated twice in the Retired Racehorse Project Makeover which gave her the passion for retraining off the track thoroughbreds.

Alyssa enjoys teaching both children and adults and loves to incorporate dressage fundamentals into her lessons to create more rounded and confident riders

India Baucom

India has been riding for the past 16 years. Growing up in North Texas she rode at several local barns and competed on the NTHJC circuit. Starting in 2014, for two years India served as a stable hand and working student for Cedar Haven Stables, the job that gave her confidence to pursue a career in horses.
India attended Meredith Manor International Equestrian Centre where she studied Classical German dressage as well as riding instruction and equine sports massage therapy. After graduation she worked in commercial horse training/sales, therapeutic riding, commercial riding lessons, and equine-assisted counseling.

India is a huge rescue horse advocate, bringing along two of her own. She has a passion for the training of the horses often overlooked by others as she believes they have the most to offer their human companions.

All her lessons are founded on the principles of classical horsemanship, regardless of the discipline being taught. Bringing together a blend of skills she is dedicated to instilling in all students the unique kind of confidence, resiliency, and self-efficacy only found in the presence of horses.
